I made arrangements of many tunes; I’m rather proud of some of them. But my interest in Dixieland meant that many of my arrangements are of songs still under copyright. That means I can’t show them to you—my hard luck, but a safeguard for the composers and their heirs. I can’t distribute my dynamite “Let’s Do It” and “Blues My Naughty Sweetie,” nor my C-tuning version of “Ain’t She Sweet.”
But I have to confess that I liked many of the professional arrangements I ran across better. It was worth the hard work to learn Janet Davis’s “Wabash Cannonball” and “Chopsticks” (in Famous Banjo Pickin’ Tunes) and Jack Hatfield’s “Old Rugged Cross” (in Old-Time Gospel Banjo Solos).
